Every so often a new supplement will emerge on to the scene with claims of being the next miracle drug. It will treat everything from dry skin, weight loss, dissolve kidney stones, and protect against cancer.
Coconut oil is the new darling of the Internet and the claims are that it cures all of the above and more. The enthusiasm for coconut has crossed over to animal nutrition.
It is important to remember that our pets are not little humans and not all medications and supplements transfer to our pets. High amounts of coconut oil can cause health risks in our canine patients such as pancreatitis. There has been no research done on the benefits of coconut oil in veterinary nutrition.
Before giving any new supplement to your pet and following dosing guidelines that you have found on the internet please consult your veterinarian.
