When we go in to see our dentist for an exam and cleaning, an important part of that exam is to have radiographs taken of our teeth. It helps the dentist see what is happening below the gum line and uncover any problems or developing conditions.
Just like human medicine, dental radiographs are becoming a very important part of the overall dental exam in veterinary medicine. A tooth may look healthy above the gum line but below could look very different. Radiographs help us to not only identify existing problems but can help us to take the necessary steps to prevent potential problems in the future. The end result will be a healthy mouth for the patient. A healthier mouth will help to decrease other health issues like kidney or heart disease. Here are some interesting images of what we found below the gum line.
